Tigers cruise past Panthers 94-81

(Halifax, NS) On Saturday night at the Dalplex the two best teams in the AUS faced off in a four-point game.The Dalhousie Tigers came out on top with a 94-81 win over the UPEI Panthers.

The Panthers leading scorer Tyler Scott netted the first basket of the game with a nice a floater.

William Yengue put the Tigers ahead 11-10 with a move in the high post.
It was a back-and-forth first quarter, which saw multiple lead changes. The Panthers started to take charge late in the quarter opening a 19-14 lead. Scoring dried up on both sides as the Panthers held on to their 19-14 lead heading into the second quarter.
The Panthers started the second quarter with a 6-0 run taking a 25-14 lead as the Tigers went almost four minutes without a point. Alex Petronis netted the first field goal of the second quarter for the Tigers with a three pointer just over five minutes into the frame.
Petronis hit another three ball just a possession later followed by Matt McVeigh who hit a three of his own cutting the Tigers deficit to 33-28. The Tigers continued to feed the hot had as Petronis hit again from deep giving the Tigers their first lead in over 10 minutes at 37-36 lead.
The Tigers were down as many as 10-points early in the second quarter but the Tigers shooters came alive late giving them a 43-39 lead heading into the half.
Kashrell Lawrence netted his first basket of the game in the third quarter, putting the Tigers up 47-41.
Jonathan Hovingh cut the Panthers deficit to a one-possession game with a layup at 59-56.
The Tigers edged out the Panthers in a high scoring third quarter 29-26 taking a 72-65 lead into the fourth quarter.
Dalhousie continued to push the play as Lawrence made a strong move to the hoop extending the Tigers lead to 76-65 early in the fourth quarter. The Panthers were held to just one field goal in the first four minutes of the quarter.
Dalhousie held a comfortable double-digit lead for the majority of the fourth quarter and cruised to a 94-81 win.
Scott dropped a game high 28 points while McVeigh led the Tigers with 18 points.
Both teams have one game remaining in their AUS regular season schedule. Dalhousie will face off against Cape Breton while UPEI will play UNB. Both games will take place Friday, February 26th
