Alleyne powers SMU offence in 65-55 win over Tigers

The SMU Huskies defeated the CIS No. 9 Dalhousie Tigers 65-55 Wednesday evening in AUS men's basketball action from the Homburg Centre.

Kemar Alleyne (Scarborough, ON) had 18 points and four rebounds for Saint Mary`s, who improve to 9-8 with 24 points in AUS play.

The Huskies sit tied with 10-7 Acadia in conference standings.

Kashrell Lawrence (Brampton, ON) paced the Tigers offence with 18 points on 7 for 9 shooting from the floor while William Yengue (Douala, Cameroon) added nine points and seven rebounds.

Toronto natives Ritchie Kanza Mata and Alex Petronis each had eight points for Dal.

Both Dal and UPEI are 12-6 with 34 points and play each other February 20th worth four-points.

10-7 UNB sits in third place with 28 points while 7-10 CBU is sixth.

6-12 Memorial and 3-13 STFX sit outside the playoffs.

Dal jumped out to a slim 13-12 opening quarter lead and SMU outscored Dal 20-6 in the second quarter which saw the Huskies out front at the half 32-19.

The Tigers opened the second half with a 21-12 third quarter score and SMU went ahead 44-40 after thirty minutes.

A 21-15 final frame saw SMU cruise to the 65-55 victory.

Both Osman Barrie (Ottawa, ON) and Theon Reefer (Toronto, ON) each finished with double-doubles for SMU.

Barrie added 13 points and 11 rebounds while Reefer had 13 and 10.

Brian Rouse (Mississauga, ON) chipped in 11 points and Marquis Clayton finished with six.

Up next SMU visits STFX Friday night 8pm.

Saint Mary`s visits Acadia February 23rd and CBU February 27th.
