Lawrence leads Tigers to 78-73 victory over Huskies

In the annual Shoot for the Cure Tigers basketball game, Dalhousie took down the Saint Mary's Huskies 78-73 in AUS men's basketball action. Ritchie Kanza Mata recorded another double-double with 12 assists and 11 points. 

Christian Brown and Meghan Thompson shot 10 free throws each during half time to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Each player's sponsor gave a generous donation of $100 to the cause.
Ainsley Macintyre had her hair cut during the half, as she is donating 10' inches of her hair to the foundation. Over the past couple weeks MacIntyre has raised over $2600 to donate to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation along side her hair.
The first half did not disappoint, as the two teams were all tied up at 42-42 after two quarters of play. Sven Stammberger was lights out from downtown shooting 5-7 from behind the three-point line. The Huskies also found success in the deep ball shooting an impressive 63%.
Stammberger hit his first three of the game giving the Tigers and early 12-7 lead in the first quarter. Brian Rouse and Brian Augustine countered hitting back-to-back threes shortly after bring the score to 14-13.
Ritchie Kanza Mata had a nice drive to the basket to give the Tigers a 24-20 lead at the end of the first quarter.
It was Stammberger opening the scoring in the second quarter with another three ball giving the Tigers a seven point lead, their biggest of the half. The Huskies managed to chip away at the seven points and eventually tied the game at 38-38 after a big three from Kadeem Thompson.
The two sides headed into the locker room tied at 42-42.
Stammberger showed no signs of slowing down hitting another three in the third quarter extending the Dalhousie lead to 49-45. Rouse also continued his hot night with a hard cut to the basket bring the Huskies with in one point.
After three quarters the Tigers held a 59-54 lead.
The small lead established in the third quarter would hold for the remainder of the game, as the Huskies couldn't seem to tie things up.
Jarred Reid hit a huge three pointer, which sealed the deal for the Tigers in the last minute. The Tigers grabbed their eight win of the year 78-73.
Kashrell Lawrence had a game high 21 points.
The Tigers (8-4) will travel to UPEI (8-2) Saturday, January 23 while the Huskies (4-7) are off till next weekend when they host the StFX X-Men (1-10).
