TORONTO – The Ryerson Rams men's basketball team overpowered the visiting Dalhousie Tigers in the second half enroute to a convincing 97-72 victory on Friday night at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.

Ryerson's Jahmal Jones (Mississauga, Ont.) and Dalhousie's Devon Stedmen (Ottawa, Ont.) each finished with a game-high 17 points.

The Rams opened the game on an 8-0 run but the Tigers rallied to take a late 21-19 lead. Ryerson forward Bjorn Michaelsen (Otterburn Park, Que.) sunk three free throws with four seconds left in the quarter to give the Rams the 22-21 advantage through ten minutes.

Dalhousie's defensive pressure caused the Rams some issues early in the second quarter, helping the Tigers regain the lead at 30-29. However, from that point forward, the Rams went on a 20-9 run to close the quarter and held a ten point lead at 49-39 at the half.

Ryerson stepped up their own defensive pressure in the second half, allowing them to extend their lead to 14 points at 71-57 through three quarters.

In the fourth, the Rams forced turnovers on the first five Dalhousie possessions which led to a 7-0 run to put the game out of reach. Charles Boampong (Toronto) finished the scoring with a baseline three pointer to close the game at 97-72.

Ryerson continues their exhibition season on October 18 when they host the Saskatchewan Huskies at 2:00 p.m. at Kerr Hall Gymnasium.
