In the first U SPORTS Top 10 of 2019, the women's volleyball team is ranked #3 and the men's basketball team is ranked #8.
TORONTO (U SPORTS) – The Brandon Bobcats are the new team to beat in U SPORTS men’s volleyball.
Fresh off a convincing pair of 3-0 sweeps over previously top-ranked Trinity Western over the weekend, the Bobcats claimed their first No.1 ranking in program history. Brandon visits Alberta for a weekend set beginning Friday.
Meanwhile, the defending U SPORTS track and field champion Guelph Gryphons begin the 2019 season as the top-ranked teams in the nation. The Gryphons, who last March swept the team titles for the first time since 2008, will compete in the Sharon Anderson Memorial Meet hosted by the Toronto Varsity Blues this weekend.
In other U SPORTS rankings, UNB (men’s hockey), Montreal (women’s hockey), Carleton (men’s basketball), Laval(women’s basketball), Trinity Western (women’s volleyball) and UBC (men’s and women’s swimming) remain at No.1 in the first rankings of 2019. The first wrestling rankings of the winter semester will be announced next Tuesday.
New this season, U SPORTS is implementing the ELO Rating System for the calculation of its weekly national rankings. Powered by RankR, ELO’s unique algorithm blends a statistical calculation with customized variables that is adaptable across a range of sports. For men’s hockey, it will be combined with the results of the media panel balloting (each weighted 50%) to produce the final top 10. For more information, click here.
