The sportswriter works with members of the Dalhouise Tigers marketing, communications and event teams to tell the story of its student-athletes and teams in their pursuit of excellence both on and off the playing surface

Hours of employment will be flexible depending on the time of year and promotions initiatives occurring. Expected number of hours will vary throughout the term, averaging 10-15 hours per week. Day, evening, and weekend hours are required.

Team members need to be able to think strategically, work both independently and as part of the team, and be willing and able to roll up their sleeves to help implement the programs and promotions.

Key Responsibilities:
• Attend varsity games and write game recaps
• Research and write weekly articles about Dalhousie’s varsity teams
• Research and write feature stories on selected promotional events (e.g. Student Nights) and recaps
• Assist with development and writing of media releases
• Research and write about Dalhousie’s varsity team members’ volunteer work in the community

Qualifications:
• Must be a Dalhousie student in the 2017-18 academic year
• Be available at a wide variety of times, including some weekends and evenings
• Possess strong organizational, time-management, and multi-tasking skills
• Must have strong communication skills—both written and verbal
• Knowledge of a variety of sports required
• Some writing experience preferred
• Photography skills are an asset
• Be able to work independently, but thrive in a team environment
• Be a self-starter who is full of creative ideas and not afraid to take initiative
• Must understand the Dalhousie experience and be eager to be involved in life on campus
