Congratulations to the men's basketball team and women's volleyball team who both were in the USPORTS Top 10 rankings this week. After opening the season 2-0 the men's basketball team moved up a spot to number 5 while the women's volleyball team catapults to number 3 in the country!
The full USPORTS release follows:
The UBC Thunderbirds and Brock Badgers begin the season as the top-ranked swimming and wrestling teams in the country.
Both Thunderbird swim teams sit atop the polls to begin their seasons. The UBC men look to capture their third U SPORTS gold in four seasons, while women attempt to claim their sixth U SPORTS gold in seven seasons.
Meanwhile, the wrestling season opens with the Badgers men at No.1 in the country, ready to chase after their fifth consecutive U SPORTS gold while the Brock women start the year in the top spot after claiming their sixth consecutive U SPORTS gold last spring.
This week’s rankings are also highlighted by a pair of changes at the top. In women’s basketball, Regina (2-0) takes over the pole position for the first time since the opening poll of last year, after opening the season with a weekend sweep of Manitoba. The Cougars are set to host the U SPORTS Women’s Basketball Final 8 Championship in March 2018.
Meanwhile, Montreal leap up to No.1 in women’s volleyball, after sweeping McGill 3-0 on the road and defeating Sherbrooke 3-0 at home over the weekend.
In other U SPORTS rankings, Carleton (men’s basketball), Alberta (men’s hockey), UBC (women’s hockey) and Trinity Western (men’s volleyball) and all remain national leaders for another week.
