This week’s Flashback Friday features the 1999-2000 women’s basketball team.
Front Row (L-R):
Kerry Maier, Angelia Crealock, Fausta Charlong, Julia Burden, Libby McNamara, Janet Wells. Back Row (L-R): Jim Charters (Assistant Coach), Carolyn Savoy, (Head Coach), Rita Rieksts, Sonya Young, Jillian MacDonald, Logan Dunning, Janice King, Danielle Rumbolt, Joe Well (Assistant Coach), J.C. Gallant (Trainer), John Babcock (Manager).

The Dalhousie Tigers began the 1999-00 season with great energy and high expectations. Returning players included conference first team all-stars Angelia Crealock, and fellow third-year players Jillian MacDonald and Logan Dunning. Janice King would be the lone fourth-year student on the team. The Tigers would go on to lose just two games in the regular season, finishing with a record of 18-2 and just nudging out StFX for the number one seed in tie breakers, heading into the post season. As the number one seed at the AUAA championship, the Tigers had a first round bye and faced the Memorial Sea-Hawks in the semifinal.

Leading into the AUAA conference playoffs the Tigers had earned themselves a first-round bye due to their terrific regular season play. The Tigers faced off against the Memorial Seahawks in the AUAA championship semifinal. Unfortunately their season came to an end as the Tigers fell 57-56 with the Seahawks draining a three-pointer with less than 11 seconds remaining in the game. Angelia Crealock was named to the tournament all-star team.

Not surprisingly the individual success the Tigers demonstrated in the regular season earned them a wealth of awards. Angelia Crealock took home AUAA MVP honours at the league banquet and Janice King was named a first team all-star following a tremendous season. The Tigers individual awards didn’t stop at the AUAA level. Angelia Crealock was further recognized as a second team all-Canadian.

The 2017-18 Tigers are hosting Brock, Saint Mary’s and Bishop’s this weekend as the Lawton’s centennial tournament kicks off Friday night in the Dalplex.
