(Halifax, N.S)- Tigers women’s basketball head coach Anna Stammberger is pleased to announce the addition of Riley Sood and Hannah Chadwick to the 2018-19 roster.

A 5’8 shooting guard, Riley Sood has represented Nova Scotia the last three seasons, and joined the U17 team at the 2016 national championship in Saskatchewan, Sask. that summer.

A three-year member of the Citadel High School girls’ basketball team, she was named their rookie of the year in grade 10. Their team captain the last two seasons, Sood topped the team in points as well as in three-point scoring in her most recent season.

“I’m really excited to be joining such an amazing basketball program,” says Sood. “Anna is a great coach and I’m honoured to have the chance to play for her next year. Since I first began playing basketball, my personal goal was always to play basketball at a university that not only focuses on the athletic component but also academics.”

The Halifax native is a High Honours student, and will begin her studies in Dalhousie’s Faculty of Science in September.

“Riley is following family tradition in choosing Dalhousie as her sister is currently working on a major in commerce here and both her father and grandfather are alumni,” says Stammberger. “Her tremendous work ethic and competitive drive will be a great addition to our roster and we’re also excited to have such a sharp shooter on our side!”

Joining Sood for the 2018-19 season is 5’10 shooting guard Hannah Chadwick.

Chadwick has spent the past three years playing in the JUEL of Ontario elite girls’ basketball league in Ontario. In 2015 and 2016, she played for North Toronto before moving on to the GTA West Monarchs.

In addition to her club team experience, Chadwick was a standout player on her high school’s basketball team. A four-year player on the St. Clement’s School team, Hannah averaged 20 points per game in the Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario Athletic Association (CISAA) league.

Chadwick’s father, Rob, played for the Tigers men’s basketball team from 1985-88.

“We’re very happy to have Hannah follow in her father’s footsteps and join her sister here at Dalhousie,” says Stammberger. “We look forward to helping her further develop her game and guide her transition in the classroom and on the court here at Dalhousie.”

A native of Toronto, Ont., Hannah has been an Honour Roll student all four years of high school, and will begin her studies in the Faculty of Science at Dalhousie next fall.

“I am very excited to come to Dalhousie and join a young team that has a lot of potential,” says Chadwick. “I chose Dalhousie for its exceptional academics, as well as its strong basketball program. I hope to improve my basketball skills while contributing to the team’s future success. The players and coaches have made me feel very welcome. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a student-athlete at Dalhousie.”

The Tigers are currently 5-8 so far this season and are pushing to earn a spot at this year’s AUS championship.
