Exciting changes within Dalhousie Athletics

Dr. Arig al Shaibah, Dalhousie’s Vice-Provost, Student Affairs, is pleased to announce a new structure for Dalhousie Athletics and Recreation.

Dalhousie athletics and recreation plays an instrumental role in creating an exceptional student experience, enhancing affinity for the university and in contributing to its surrounding community. Student-athletes are wonderful ambassadors of the university who aim high academically, athletically and as community citizens. More broadly, Athletics and Recreation positively impacts the physical and mental well-being of Dalhousie’s student body, providing them with opportunities to be physically active, connect with other students and feel a sense of pride as a member of the Dalhousie community.

"With such an impactful role that aligns closely with the divisional and institutional priorities, I’m pleased to announce that a new organizational and reporting structure has been introduced for Athletics and Recreation," says Dr. al Shaibah. "Specifically, in addition to oversight of varsity athletics, club sports and intramurals, the facility, business services and programming functions, in Halifax and in Truro, will be consolidated under the leadership of Tim Maloney, who has been promoted to the role of Executive Director, Athletics and Recreation and will report to me, as Vice-Provost, Student Affairs."

This change is expected to ensure greater profile of Athletics and Recreation among Dalhousie’s internal and external partners, greater collaboration and coordination of programs and services offered, and greater quality and efficacy of the entire enterprise.

"Tim brings tremendous strategic leadership, business acumen, and relationship-building skills," adds Dr. al Shaibah. "He has shown a strong commitment to sport excellence for student-athletes and quality fitness and recreation opportunities for all students in the short time in his previous role as Director, Varsity Athletics. His keen interest in making a difference in the lives of Dalhousie students will continue to positively impact the campus and community through the integrated unit’s mandate."

"I’m excited about our new structure and the opportunity to lead our dedicated team of professionals in Athletics and Recreation," says Maloney. "We appreciate the important role athletics and recreation play on our campus and in our community. We are committed to providing top-quality programming for our students and key stakeholders."
