U Sports Top 10 January 31

TORONTO (U SPORTS) – The Manitoba Bisons have taken over the lead in men’s volleyball for the first time in 14 years, while the Guelph Gryphons stand alone on top of the U SPORTS track and field rankings.

In men’s volleyball, the Bisons (17-1) claimed their first No.1 ranking since Feb. 19, 2003, following a pair of convincing 3-0 sweeps at then-ranked No.8 Brandon (11-7) on Friday and Saturday. Manitoba hosts Thompson Rivers (2-14) in a weekend series beginning Friday.

In women’s track and field, the Gryphons jumped into top spot to sweep both the men’s and women’s polls after claiming 12 medals at the McGill Team Challenge over the weekend. Guelph will compete at the York Open on Saturday.

In other U SPORTS rankings, Carleton (men’s basketball), Laval (women’s basketball), UNB (men’s hockey), UBC (women’s hockey; men’s and women’s swimming), Alberta (women’s volleyball), and Brock (men’s and women’s wrestling) hold on to their pole positions for another week.
