Women's basketball adds Meghan Greenland and Katelyn Scott

(Halifax, N.S.) – Dalhousie women’s basketball head coach Anna Stammberger is pleased to announce the commitment of Meghan Greenland and Katelyn Scott to the 2017-18 lineup.

The Tigers have bolstered their back court with the commitment of 5’10 shooting guard, Meghan Greenland. Greenland comes to the Tigers after a successful high school career with Gonzaga Regional High School. The co-captain of the senior A team, Greenland has achieved a long list of individual accomplishments in her three years on the team including earning all-star status at the Keith Keating Memorial Tournament in both 2017 and 2015 and was named the Holy Trinity High School tournament MVP in 2016. At the 2015 KSA Tournament in  (Orlando, FL), Greenland was once again named the tournament MVP. Also In 2015 and 2016 she was recognized for her overall contribution to school athletics.

A native of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Greenland has played on the provincial basketball team since 2013, competing at four national championships. Greenland was among ten basketball players to be awarded the Newfoundland & Labrador Premier’s Athletic Award honouring the province’s top athletes last year.

“I believe Dalhousie is the perfect fit for me as a basketball player and as a student,” says Greenland. “I’m excited for the opportunity Coach Stammberger has given me and I’m looking forward to being a part of the Dalhousie Tigers and continuing my education at Dal.”

An honours student at Gonzaga Regional High School, Greenland will graduate this June and will pursue a Bachelor of Science while attending Dalhousie.

“We’re very happy to have another Newfoundlander join the Tigers,” says Stammberger. “Meghan’s great shooting range and provincial ball experience will be a welcome addition to our young team.”

6’0 forward, Katelyn Scott joins the Tigers after successful high school and provincial team careers in New Brunswick.

Scott has been a member of the Riverview High School varsity women’s basketball team her last three years of high school. The team captain, Scott is currently averaging 14 points and 12 rebounds per game this season.

She has also been a member of the New Brunswick provincial team program since 2015. Scott helped lead them to a gold medal at the East Coast Games in 2016 and a fourth place finish at the national championship in 2015.

“I’m really looking forward to studying at Dalhousie next year and becoming a part of the women’s basketball program,” says Scott. “Dalhousie has always been my top choice academically and having the opportunity to join coach Stammberger and the Tigers on the court is a real thrill. I had the chance to meet the team and all of the girls were welcoming, I’m looking forward to getting to know them better and working hard to contribute to their future success.”

A native of Riverview, N.B., Katelyn is an honours student and is enrolled in Dalhousie’s Kinesiology program.

“Katelyn is an outstanding academic student-athlete and will fit in well with the Tigers,” says Stammberger. “Her length and rebounding ability will give us more depth in the post position and with some work to increase her strength and shooting range to will be a contributor in a few years.”
