(Halifax, N.S.) – Dalhousie men’s soccer head coach Pat Nearing is excited to announce the commitment of Ben Grondin and Arjun Sethi to the Tigers 2017-18 lineup.
A 6’3 goalkeeper from Calgary, Alberta, Ben Grondin comes to the Tigers after successful club and high school careers. The Calgary West Soccer Club product helped lead his team to a U18 City Fall Cup silver medal in 2015. Prior to joining Calgary West Grondin played with the Calgary Villains winning the U16 City Futsal gold medal and a bronze medal at the U16 provincial championships.
To go along with his club success, Grondin led his Western Canada High School division one soccer team to back to back city championship silver medal finishes in 2014 and 2015.
“I’m very excited to be studying and playing soccer at Dalhousie next year,” says Grondin. “My parents are both Dalhousie alumni and my dad also played on the soccer team so I am really looking forward to being a part of the Tigers soccer program.”
An honours student all three years at Western Canada High, Grondin will graduate this June and will pursue a Bachelor of Commerce in Dalhousie’s Rowe School of Business.
“Ben is an athletic goalkeeper who will thrive in the AUS,” says Nearing. “He has a big upside athletically and academically. We are looking forward to his arrival at Dalhousie from Calgary.”
The Tigers have bolstered their back line with the commitment of 6’1 left back, Arjun Sethi. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native is a member of the Halifax City Soccer Club where he has won three provincial championships over the last three years. Sethi and Halifax City have also represented Nova Scotia at three club national championships in Newfoundland, British Columbia, and Ontario. Sethi is currently a part of the core training group for the 2017 Canada Games men’s soccer team.
“I am very excited and honoured to have this opportunity, and I feel it will be a positive step in my development as a player, especially under the great coaching staff,” says Sethi. “Attending a university with a distinguished academic reputation and a strong soccer program will most definitely be a memorable experience.”
Arjun Sethi has consistently been a high school honours student and will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science while at Dalhousie.
“Arjun is a talented defender with provincial team experience,” says Nearing. “He is coming into the team with a competitive attitude and willingness to work hard to earn a spot.”
The Dalhousie Tigers men’s soccer team finished the 2016-17 regular season with a record of 5-0-7.
